New Health Insurance with ASF Standard Conditions

More clarity and comparison for consumers

Recently, the Insurance and Pension Funds Supervisory Authority (ASF) defined a minimum set of protections for health insurance in Portugal, through the so-called “Standard Conditions”, which consist of a basic package of coverages and capital limits which serve as a common reference, so that different health insurance proposals can be easily compared.

Essential coverages and their respective minimum reference capital The following are defined:

  • Hospitalisation: coverage with a capital limit of 30 000 €, intended for expenses associated with hospitalisation, surgery and hospital treatment.
  • Outpatient clinic: coverage for consultations, examinations and other non-hospitalisation care, with a capital of 1 000 €.
  • Preventive Medicine: a set of preventative measures that can be used once a year, at no additional cost to the insured.
  • Extended Coverage Illnesses: protection for serious illnesses, such as certain types of cancer and cardiovascular diseases, with a capital limit of 300 000 €.

These amounts are annualised and apply per insured person, serving as the basis for any product that claims to comply with the ASF's standard conditions.

At Corbroker, we support individuals and companies in choosing health insurance based on clear, comparable criteria appropriate to each situation. The ASF recommendations are an important reference point, but the real added value lies in the expert advice that transforms technical information into safe and appropriate decisions.
